A series of thefts of lead roofing from shops in Stafford town centre has caused thousands of pounds worth of damage. Thieves stripped lead from the roofs of The Grove Coffee House, as well as Boots and Waterstones. Tim Sandy, owner of The Grove Coffee Shop, said staff came in to find rainwater coming through the ceiling of the building. "It will cost us something like £5,000 in terms of the value of the lead, the damage done and loss of trade," he said. The offences are part of a spate of lead theft from homes and businesses in the town. Two earlier raids on a local hospice caused more than £10,000 worth of damage.
