Lead thefts rocket in Northants

Published on Tue 3 Jun 2008

Thieves have been stealing lead from homes in the Northamptonshire village of Burton Latimer homes while the owners are asleep inside. Twelve such incidents have been reported since April. Families have been forced to cover their bay windows and porches with plastic rubbish bags to prevent water leaking in. The offences are part of a growing trend in the county, which experienced sixty incidents in one month, compared to eighteen in the same period last year. Thieves attacked one in three of the county’s churches during 2007 and many schools have also been targeted.
