Metal thieves have struck more than 200 homes and businesses in Scunthorpe since January. Twelve offences were reported in a single day in May, including the theft of a skip containing two tonnes of scrap metal valued at £2,000. Lead has also been stripped from roofs, with thieves targeting schools, churches and scores of homes. St Mary's Church in the nearby village of Wrawby has been hit by lead thefts three times in nine months, with £25,000 worth of lead stripped from the building.
